The Perpetual Evolution of Stories

Throughout the recorded timeline, each generation has told stories that some would tell to their children, maybe because they believed the stories they listened to held weight to their own beliefs, or because it was simply compelling enough to warrant teaching their own children a lesson or to invoke a spark in their imagination, just like ignition sparks oozing out electrical discharge.

The stories we believe to hold weight to our own identity create the precipice of our internalised views and beliefs, creating a direction to lead a life which holds true to our moral compass. Stories are a gateway to a perceived reality, which is where religions have formed. I believe it’s important to hold yourself to a set of beliefs that sit comfortably with your soul, a code to live by, to nurture and to grow alongside with; thinking of it as a muscle, the more you work at it, the stronger it becomes.

Hatred energy flows into life when what you believe isn’t followed by another individual, whether it’s outwardly spoken about or not; the crunching feeling you feel when what you believe is being tested, can make you feel strings of strong emotions. The energy in motion you experience can be dealt with by simply sitting with your emotions, feeling but not reacting, because it’s how you react that can define you in the eyes of others. Learning to nurture emotions in a healthy way, creates emotional discipline, when so much energy is contained, at combustion point, energy either explodes or it’s slowly released by slowly turning the pressure valve and letting that energy escape; without harming anyone. Exercising, meeting with friends, watching a movie or even listening to music can be the valve, by understanding yourself intuitively, you can navigate a life that affirms who you are without it affecting anyone else. Hatred doesn’t cost anything, but nor does kindness; you get to decide which path you follow, each option leads to a consequence; you may just want to ask yourself, before it’s too late, how do you wish to be perceived by others if you were to suddenly be taken away from societal life?

Society, is consistently moving, evolving, shifting, but it’s rare our stories do the same. The stories we tell people have impact, creating narratives in minds that have real life consequences one way or another. When we stick to the same ideas for too many generations, the world staggers. When our words create friction, the world reacts, we become divided, that’s when it’s vital to sit down and debate our differences, without spewing hate; it’s healthy, it’s the only way the world truly evolves. Society and the stories we tell need to evolve alongside each-other with our language adopting all of perceived reality.

Whether you’re left or right wing, some of us just sit in the cockpit waiting to land, firmly on the terracotta, safely.

We are, ourselves, walking, talking books. We’re all stories, what we let out, listen to or even overhear, affects us one way, or another, subconsciously, sometimes even consciously; through every decision we make, we change our future, your own timeline ripples and shifts, understanding this is important, as each decision we make has its effect, when you realise this, you become the paintbrush to your own canvas, carving your own reality.

Where some books struggle to resonate or ring, other books excite and inspire; we as individuals pick up on how we feel with our emotions, we can feel bored and uninspired one minute to thrilled and buzzing the next; attempt to try and stop, to ask yourself, what made that shift happen? The stories, the books, the art? Whatever you conclude as your answer, realise that, other individuals made you feel that; a human. All forms of art are stories, ideas, experiences explained with words and illustrations, they’re condensed snippets of human experience; written in a language, that was formed over centuries of human vocal design so we could communicate with one another; we evolved, we’re consistently evolving, yet life today is staggering, almost glitching.

Stories are embedded in everything we do, the creativity from paintings to books, television to radio. What anyone chooses to listen to, will shape them as individuals. However, what happens when the stories you’ve been following, ends? What happens when you, the individual, starts leading with your own story?

“Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much. You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about your pathway to the future, but all there will ever be is what’s happening here, and the decisions we make in this moment, which are based on either love or fear,” – Jim Carrey.

Hello - I’m a creative individual with a passion for expressive art through photography & music. Every now and then I get the urge to write to express myself with what I think and feel; being an empathic individual a lot enters my mind with nowhere to excrete these thoughts, creating a dumpster fire in my mind. This blog will be my home for thought and expression through words and photographs.
